COPENHAGEN : Social Summit Set
Social and economic inequities are rising around the world, and top officials from 184 countries will meet in Copenhagen for a week beginning Monday to discuss the ominous trends.
Three key themes will be raised at the United Nations World Summit for Social Development in Copenhagen: poverty, unemployment and social exclusion.
Other contentious issues will include the problems of foreign debt in developing countries, the family, and development and financial resources, or the so-called 20/20 concept--a demand that donor nations devote 20% of their aid budgets to social sectors.
Vice President Al Gore will head the U.S. delegation on a one-day stopover at the summit, which is a major U.N. undertaking.
