ST. LOUIS — An African lion cub believed to be someone’s illegal pet was found chained to the front gate of the St. Louis Zoo.
The lion was discovered early Thursday by a security guard and placed under quarantine at the zoo’s animal hospital. Once the cub receives a clean bill of health, officials hope to place it at another zoo. There already are four African lion cubs at the St. Louis Zoo, and the zoo’s lionesses probably would kill the newcomer, officials said.
