Veteran parks administrator Manuel A. Mollinedo on Friday was named interim director of the troubled Los Angeles Zoo.
Mollinedo’s appointment was announced during the first meeting of a council committee formed to make improvements at the city-owned zoo. A recent report by a panel of national experts found severe deficiencies, including inadequate and unsanitary animal quarters.
Mollinedo, an assistant general manager in charge of the department’s Griffith Park/Metro Region, replaces Mark Goldstein, who resigned a day after the report was released.
