Contractor Suffers Electrical Shock
NORTHRIDGE — A private contractor was shocked Saturday by a 2,400-volt electrical current while working in an underground vault on the Cal State Northridge campus, authorities said.
The 26-year-old man, whose identity was not released, was not breathing and did not have a pulse when rescuers from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived on the scene at a Nordhoff Street parking lot about 5:40 p.m., said Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
But paramedics were able to restore breathing, Humphrey said, and they credited a CSUN police officer who began cardiopulmonary resuscitation with aiding the victim’s rescue.
It was not clear what the man was doing in the vault, Humphrey said.
The man remained in critical condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Humphrey said.
