Fremont Hands Garfield Its First Loss, 2-1

Gilberto Gomez took a perfect crossing pass from Pablo Gonzalez to score the winning goal to give Fremont a 2-1 victory over Garfield in a Southeastern Conference battle Thursday at Fremont.

Despite suffering its first loss, Garfield finished with a 9-1-4 record, tops in the Southeastern Conference. The Pathfinders finished at 9-3-2.

Fremont got off to a fast start when Francisco Jiminez converted a pass from Gonzalez to give the Pathfinders a 1-0 lead in the second minute.

Garfield’s Romeo Cordoba scored the equalizer on a drive up the middle at the 50th minute.

South Gate 3, Roosevelt 3--The Rams nearly pulled off the upset of the season, taking a 2-0 halftime lead before settling for a tie in a Southeastern Conference match.

Carlos Orelliana and Oscar Ruiz scored first-half goals for the Rams.

The Roughriders (7-3-5) struck back on goals by Juan Ruiz and a penalty shot by Cesar Rodriguez.

The Rams (1-10-1) retook the lead on Elviro Dubon’s penalty kick, but Rodriguez scored his second goal to tie the score.

Belmont 5, Franklin 3--Eric Hernandez had two goals and two assists as the Sentinels improved to 13-0-1 in the Northern Conference on Monday. Jose Juarez, Herman Gonzalez and Daniel Torres had the other goals for Belmont.

Lincoln 5, Wilson 1--Melvin Hernandez nailed a hat trick, giving him 17 goals for the season, and Jose Guevara scored two goals as the Tigers (7-5-1) won a Northern Conference game over Wilson (6-4-3) on Monday.

San Pedro 4, Dorsey 2--The Pirates came back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat the visiting Dons in a Southern Pacific conference match Thursday.

Anderson Melendez and Jorge Coreas scored a goal apiece for the Dons (5-5-2).

Roosevelt 2, Bell 1--Carlos Trujullo set up both Roosevelt goals with his deft passing as the Roughriders won a Southeastern Conference game Tuesday.

Cesar Rodriguez and Gilberto Gomez scored for Roosevelt (8-3-4). Hector Sandoval got the lone goal for the Eagles (9-2-4).
