GIRLS’ BASKETBALL : Crenshaw Stays Unbeaten Against Washington--and Everyone Else
So much for revenge for Washington High.
Crenshaw quickly dispelled any of those notions, coasting to a 62-50 victory for its third win of the season over its Southern Pacific Conference rival Wednesday.
The win also gave unbeaten Crenshaw (22-0) the conference title and most likely the top seed for the 4-A playoffs. The draw was determined Saturday.
The Cougars put the game out of reach in the second quarter, outscoring the Generals, 26-2, and running off 24 consecutive points in the final six minutes of the first half. Kristi Lattin and Naila Moseley had 18 points each for the two-time defending City 4-A champions, who also defeated Washington, 62-53, last month and 56-51 in the championship of the Washington tournament in December.
“Washington is a good team, but our first half was excellent,” Lattin said. “We were executing and finally played like we knew we could all along against them. It felt good.”
Tina Greer led Washington with 14 points and Trysta Wilson added 12, including two three-point baskets.
Records: Washington 13-6; Crenshaw 22-0.
Westchester 46, Manual Arts 44--Shawnta Jones had 12 points and eight rebounds and Karina Benevides scored 11 points for Manual Arts.
Records: Manual Arts 11-6.
Roosevelt 76, Bell 47--The Roughriders, paced by 20 points from Edna Alvarez and 17 from Jennifer Brambila, overcame a 31-point effort by Bell’s Alma Ruvalcaba.
Records: Roosevelt 17-1.
Marshall 34, Wilson 29--Marshall won its 16th straight despite Donna Gordon scoring 21 points for Wilson, and improved to 13-0 in Northern Conference play.
Records: Marshall 19-4.
