Holy Bull Packs a Load as Favorite in Donn

Holy Bull, 1994 horse of the year and an easy winner in his only start this year, will try to overcome the No. 10 post and a decided weight disadvantage in today’s $300,000 Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park.

Carrying 127 pounds, Holy Bull will spot his nine rivals 11-17 pounds in the 1 1/8-mile race. The 4-year-old colt, on a six-race winning streak, hasn’t carried more than 126 pounds in 15 previous starts.

Trainer Jimmy Croll has said that after the Donn, he plans to ship Holy Bull to California for the Santa Anita Handicap on March 11.

Here is the post-position order for the Donn: Kissin Kris, Danville, Proud Shot, Migrating Moon, Cigar, Bonus Money, Wallenda, Virginia Rapids, Primitive Hall and Holy Bull.

“The outside (post) is not something I would have chosen,” Croll said. “But it’s not that bad. My horse has enough speed to get position, and there’s a good run before they hit the first turn.”

Holy Bull is 4-5 on the morning line, with Cigar, carrying 115 pounds, next at 4-1.
