O.C. Athletes to Compete in Sunkist Track Meet
More than 40 individual county athletes and 25 relay teams will compete in the Sunkist Indoor Invitational track and field meet beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
Defending State champions Tara Oettinger of Foothill (long jump) and Kristy Kierulff (high jump) lead the list of local talent in the 25th running of the event. Kierulff will not compete in her specialty, choosing the long jump instead.
Seniors Reggie Curry of Tustin (triple jump) and Steve Michaels of Brethren Christian (pole vault) top the local boys’ athletes.
Huntington Beach sophomore Tony Trueba and Capistrano Valley senior Adalberto Sanchez are featured in the boys’ two-mile. The girls’ 880 will feature State meet finalists Tiffany Boykin of Laguna Hills and Katie Nuanes of Santa Margarita.
