COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Garcia Scores 32 Points as Glendale Wins, 82-78

A quick start and Charles Garcia’s 32 points enabled Glendale College to post an 82-78 victory over Santa Monica on Wednesday in a Western State Conference South Division game at Glendale.
Glendale jumped to a 21-6 lead five minutes into the game. Things continued downhill for Santa Monica, as Glendale moved to a 46-35 halftime lead.
Maurice Sowells added 12 points and nine assists for Glendale (12-12, 2-3).
Valley 99, Canyons 83--Lamar Thompson scored 16 points for the Monarchs in a WSC South Division game at Valley.
Vernon Simmons added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Valley (15-11, 4-1).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Master’s 101, Pacific Christian 16--Jodi Aqueda scored 28 points for the Mustangs, who outscored Pacific, 59-4, in the second half.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 101, Cal State Northridge 83--Carrie Dormire had 23 points and eight assists but the Matadors’ losing streak continued in an American West Conference game at Northridge.
Shannon Crouse had 22 points and six assists for Northridge (0-18, 0-3), while Kellie Hoffman had 24 points and eight assists for the Mustangs (4-14, 1-1).
Canyons 86, Valley 75--Kyetra Brown scored 20 points as the Cougars (23-5, 5-0) held off a late rally by the Monarchs (18-9, 3-2) in a WSC South Division game.
Ventura 88, Santa Barbara 43--Julie Hardy had 28 points and five steals for the Pirates (21-1, 5-0) in a WSC North Division game at Ventura.
