In addition to Sanford Sigoloff, the Orange County Board of Supervisors is considering at least tow other finalists for the post of interim county chief executive.

Janice M. Mittermeier, director of John Wayne Airport: In 1974, Mittermeier, 55, was he first woman hired as an auditor for the county. She has run the airport since 1990. Mittermeier is known as a dogged, tightfisted manager who inspires her employees’ devotion. She has had to balance rising demand for air travel with community concerns about airport noise.

Ed Dundon, former superintendent, Garden Grove Unified School District: In more than 20 years as head of the school district, Dundon, 62, won praise as a straightforward and supportive administrator. A former Marine Corps lieutenant, he says his pet peeve is people who say, “It is someone else’s responsibility.” Dundon retired at the end of 1993
