RANCHO PALOS VERDES : Memorial Fund Set for Local Teen-Ager

A memorial fund is being set up for Lynn Snyder, the Rancho Palos Verdes teen-ager whose body was found in her car at the bottom of a peninsula ravine late last month.

Snyder, 17, who ran away from home in mid-December, was probably suffering from anorexia at the time, said Jim Pennington, a private investigator hired by the family to help find the girl.

A letter written two days before the teen-ager fled indicated that she was depressed, Pennington said. But Pennington and county sheriff’s deputies said it is unclear whether Snyder committed suicide or missed a turn on the steep, winding road above the 150-foot ravine in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Coroner’s spokesman Scott Carrier said tests have not revealed the cause of death, or how long Snyder’s body was in the ravine.

Snyder’s mother, Alice, said the memorial fund will help pay for a donation of parkland on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Checks may be made out to the Lynn Snyder Memorial Fund and sent to Highland Federal Bank, 20 Miraleste Plaza in Rancho Palos Verdes.
