Edison, Junior
Basketball/Forward
Philman, who finished second in Orange County in scoring last season with 27 points, still is second but is averaging about two fewer points. Edison Coach Dave White says her slightly reduced production isn’t a problem. “I think we’re more balanced,” White said. “But when it is crunch time, she knows, I know and the team knows who needs to get the ball.” That time came Thursday, when Philman scored all four of the Chargers’ points in overtime against Esperanza. Philman’s driving layup with 12 seconds left gave Edison the 50-48 victory that kept the Chargers in a tie for second in the Sunset League. Philman’s 12 rebounds gave her 799 in her career, breaking the school record of 798 held by Shannon Meyers. She needs only four points to break Meyers’ career scoring record of 1,366.
