Korean American Museum to Leave Makeshift Quarters for New Site

The Korean American Museum can finally look forward to a permanent home after four years of fund raising and planning.
Executive Director Myung Lee, who runs the fledgling museum out of an office at 3250 Wilshire Blvd., said the owner of a nearby building has donated space for the museum.
The site will be announced next month, and the museum’s permanent exhibits should be in place within two months, Lee said.
Pending the formal announcement, organizers would only say that the new facility will be on Wilshire between Normandie and Vermont avenues.
The museum’s most recent temporary exhibit was a black-and-white photo collection that traced the history of Korean immigrants in the United States and was displayed in the Koreatown Plaza last September.
A fund-raising dinner will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, 404 S. Figueroa St. Proceeds will help pay to convert the new quarters into an exhibit space.
The featured speaker will be Dr. O-Young Lee, former Minister of Culture for the Republic of Korea.
