How ‘Bout Them Super Bowl Teams?

Just imagine, more than 75,000 fans jamming Jack Murphy Stadium just to welcome the Chargers home from a victory.
Last time San Diego had such a celebration was when the Clippers left town.

The NFL’s pre-climactic NFC championship begs a question. With NFL interconference play usurping the drama of an AFC-NFC Super Bowl (unlike baseball, where the American and National leagues don’t play before the World Series), why doesn’t the NFL’s “final four” match the NFC’s No. 1 team against the AFC’s No. 2, and the AFC’s No. 1 against the NFC’s No. 2? That way, the NFL’s two best teams can play what is supposed to be the Super Bowl on a dry, neutral field.
With all due respect to the Chargers’ Cinderella hopes, Stan Humphries is no Joe Namath. The 49ers’ margin of victory will have less to do with their level of excellence than their level of compassion.

It seems the values of the streets have become our national pastime. The spokesman is a San Francisco linebacker who was quoted as saying: “Once we had them down, we wanted to kick them.” What sad examples for our kids, and no one really complains.
The 49ers have done well in the draft and getting free agents, but there’s one thing they still need to acquire: a touch of class.
