Pavarotti at the Forum
Daniel Cariaga’s review of the Jan. 4 Luciano Pavarotti concert did not touch on the amazing acoustics or ambience of the Forum experienced by those of us who only paid $45 or $75 for seats above the floor (“An Amplified Pavarotti at the Forum,” Jan. 6).
Even the great tenor’s power was diminished by the constant mumble, which at times reached a low roar, coming up from the refreshment areas where there are no doors to block the sound.
The “no late seating” printed on the ticket meant nothing as people stumbled in, sans usher and floor lights, laden with umbrellas, raincoats, balancing paper cartons of hot dogs and beer and expressing their frustrations loudly.
But, since Pavarotti seems to have abandoned the traditional concert hall venue, I’d better just lower my standards and raise my plastic glass in toast to a living legend who can give me goose bumps, no matter what.
