CYPRESS : Police Give Back Christmas to Family
Edith Jaimes and Jesus Gomez saved enough money to give themselves a Christmas present--a television and VCR.
Two weeks later, the $500 gift was stolen from the tiny motel room where they live with their 8-year-old daughter.
Police moved fast on two fronts. In 36 hours, they arrested two suspects on burglary charges.
And, saddened by the family’s plight, they took up a collection to replace the family’s television. Neither the television nor the VCR has been found.
“This was their entire Christmas,” Sgt. Eugene Komrosky said. “That’s why (officers) did what they did.”
The police, whose collection was led by Officer Chris McShane, gave the family the new television last week.
“I understand they were grateful and appreciated it because they could not have afforded a new one,” Komrosky said.
