Edison High Graduate Is Bound for Oxford
Marc Suchard, 22, a 1991 graduate of Edison High School and currently a senior at UC Berkeley, is among 40 college students in the United States to win a prestigious Marshall Scholarship from the government of Great Britain.
The Marshall Scholarships have been awarded since after World War II by Great Britain to thank the United States for its Marshall Plan aid after the war. U.S. students are picked on the basis of scholarship, leadership and contributions to their community. The scholarship allows the recipient to study there at the university of his or her choice. Suchard has chosen to attend Oxford University next fall. He will pursue his master’s degree at the Wellcome Center for Human Genetics. He is currently majoring in biophysics at UC Berkeley, where he is scheduled to graduate in May. He has been on a UC Regents’ scholarship and is president of the Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholars Assn., a campus service group. Suchard is also a member of the UC Berkeley fencing team.
He is the son of Phyllis and Steven Suchard of Huntington Beach.
