Chasen’s

Chasen’s is closing in April. What a bummer! What a shock! To make way for a shopping center?! Puh-leeze!

Suddenly, I am extremely happy that I decided, years ago, to collect menus from famous restaurants. I have quite a few--some framed and hanging in the hallway of our home--and some tucked away on an obscure shelf in some relatively unused closet.

Although my husband, Charlie, and I were not the most famous or frequent of their guests, we were friends--particularly with Maude. Our most memorable evening was Sept. 17, 1992--as guests of our daughter, Laurie, in honor of our 23rd anniversary.

The photograph taken of Charlie, Maude Chasen and me that night has been a main feature of our family room coffee table ever since. Looking at the picture brings back beautiful memories. Chasen’s may fade off into the horizon, but the aura and beauty of its existence will, in our opinion, live forever!
