LA HABRA : Anti-Graffiti Law Gets Initial Approval

The City Council has tentatively approved an ordinance that would impose stiff fines on property owners or managers who fail to erase graffiti from their buildings.
City officials could impose a $100-a-day fine on violators who fail to comply. The city would also have the option of removing the graffiti and then charging property owners and property managers for the cost.
Property owners and managers would have three days to clean up graffiti after the city ordered them to do so. Initially, the city would notify property owners of buildings needing to be cleaned up. Hearings would follow before the city ordered the graffiti covered.
The Planning Commission would hear all appeals.
City Council members will consider final approval on the anti-graffiti ordinance later this month.
