State Democrats
Gil Ferguson’s Column Right “First Things First: Corral Willie Brown” (Jan. 1) unfairly suggested that Californians have been ill-served by the state’s Democrat-controlled Legislature. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Especially in California’s tough economic times, the Democrat-controlled Legislature has worked hard to ensure that public safety programs are adequately funded and that fire protection remains a top priority. Democratic members have fought to protect our K-12 schools, community colleges and state universities from massive budget cuts.
Ferguson himself says that “as the minority party, the Assembly Republicans have voted almost as a bloc against nearly 80% of the legislation passed out of the Assembly by the majority party.” The truth is clear. Our Democrat-controlled Legislature has not stymied progress, but rather it has well-served the people of California.
