OXNARD : Pedestrian Struck, Critically Injured
An Oxnard man was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday night after being hit by a car while crossing a street in downtown Oxnard.
Carlos Soto Zaragoza, 54, was undergoing surgery at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, hospital officials said. He sustained a broken leg, severe internal injuries and head and facial injuries, police said.
Oxnard police said Zaragoza was struck by a car driven by Rudolph Contreras, 65, also of Oxnard.
Police said Contreras saw Zaragoza stepping off the curb onto 2nd Street west of D Street at 5:40 p.m., but was unable to stop the car in time.
No citations were issued; police said they were continuing to investigate the incident.
