Trail Builders
Thanks for your article on trail builder Ron Webster (Dec. 28), one of the most unrecognized and unappreciated people in Los Angeles County. Although I have never met the man, I can say unequivocally that his efforts have indirectly led to the enjoyment of thousands of positive hiking experiences, seeing scenery and breathing clean, fresh air, where they otherwise may not have had the opportunity.
And as a 9-year Sierra Club leader and user of San Gabriel and Santa Monica trails, I also have been opened to special experiences.

* The article on trail building in the Santa Monica Mountains justly praises the work of Webster and the Sierra Club volunteers.
It should be noted that there are Ron Webster clones and other Sierra Club volunteers (both men and women) building and maintaining trails in the San Gabriel and Santa Ana Mountains.
Persons wanting to take part may call (213) 387-4287 to be put in touch with the leaders for their area.
