China’s GDP, Inflation Up in 1994: China’s economy grew at a blazing clip in the third straight year of rapid growth, but inflation was more than double the government’s target, the State Statistical Bureau reported. China’s gross domestic product was about $508 billion, up 11.8% from 1993, said bureau spokesman Ye Zhen. That growth rate was 13.4% in 1993 and 13.6% in 1992. The bureau estimated the 1994 increase in China’s consumer price index at 24.2%. The inflation target for 1994 was 10%.
