A 20-year-old Camarillo man was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and of assault with intent to commit rape after threatening a woman from outside her front window, Ventura County sheriff’s officials said Thursday.
Thomas Patrick Schmitt is accused of knocking on the window of a 21-year-old Camarillo woman about 12:30 a.m. Thursday and threatening to break inside the home and assault her, officials said.
The victim, who was on the telephone to her sister in Oregon at the time, told the sister that Schmitt said he was going to rape her, according to deputies.
The sister called authorities, and deputies found Schmitt several minutes later as he was walking away from the South Glen Drive residence, officials said.
Schmitt was held at Ventura County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Ventura County Municipal Court on Tuesday.
