The Westminster Fire Department has taken on the added duties of code enforcement in a six-month experiment to determine if the action is effective and could save the city some money.

It’s too early to say if the idea is working, but based on statistics for November, the Fire Department’s four-man team has been kept busy.

Complaints about trash and debris were the most numerous, followed by banner and sign violation issues, particularly in the Little Saigon area.

But Donald C. Tully, chief of the fire prevention division now handling code enforcement, said that 76% of the complaints were resolved with one inspection and a follow-up.

The Orange County Fair & Exposition Center continues to offer an exhibit of World War II memorabilia.

Many local veterans have lent their own letters and photos for display, and the fair has gathered information and items from the National Archives.

The fair is on land that was once part of the Santa Ana Army Air Base, and mementos from the facility are also on display. Admission is free to this exhibit, open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Information: (714) 708-3247.
