Paper Route
I yearn for the good old days when you could open your front door in the morning and there would be your newspaper folded and tucked into your mailbox by a smiling, personable youth. Now your paper is flung from a fast-paced vehicle by an adult in a rush to finish the route before going to his or her normal job. Did they make their mark? Did they remember the forecast and place your paper in plastic? Many times, no.
Gone is the courtesy. Gone is the personal touch. Gone is one of the few jobs for our young to learn about responsibility, to earn money for sports, Christmas gifts or perhaps college. It has died and left us with a void.
