LOS ANGELES : 25-Cent Bus, Rail Fares Set for 2 Holiday Eves

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority board decided Wednesday to offer a 25-cent fare on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve to discourage people from driving drunk.
The lowered fare, available on bus and rail lines, will be offered from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on both holidays.
“These two nights historically experience a high incidence of traffic accidents, due largely to an increase in intoxicated drivers on area roads and freeways,” said Franklin White, MTA’s chief executive officer. “We invite those wishing to spend the evenings with relatives or friends to let MTA bus and train operators bring them home safely,” White said.
