Gravel Spill Ties Up Interstate 5 in Mission Viejo
MISSION VIEJO — Morning commuters had to wait about two hours Thursday on Interstate 5 at Avery Parkway after more than 20 tons of gravel spilled, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Officials said a dump truck spilled the gravel over a 200-yard area of the freeway, closing three of four northbound lanes. It took workers two hours to clean up the mess.
Officer Bruce Lian said the spill occurred about 8 a.m., during heavy traffic. The driver of the truck left the site, Lian said.
No injuries were reported.
