Major Airlines Cut Winter Fares: The carriers, seeking to further boost holiday demand, slashed domestic leisure fares for dates including Christmas and New Year’s Eve. The discounts, originally initiated over the weekend by Northwest Airlines Corp., were expanded by Delta Air Lines. Other limited sales were set by Trans World Airlines and America West Airlines. Delta cut 14-day advance-purchase fares 45% in most markets for 17 days during the holiday season. The dates include Dec. 15-20, 24-25 and 28-31 and Jan. 4-8. The non-refundable tickets must be purchased by Dec. 14. No minimum stay is required.
