Ikea Unlikely to Place Store in Israel: The home-furnishing chain Ikea, whose founder admitted he was once affiliated to Nazi groups, said it probably won’t offer a franchise in Israel any time soon. Responding to complaints from a U.S. Jewish group, an Ikea official said the company probably wouldn’t make enough money in Israel to justify a franchise, but will keep an eye on prospects. The Los Angeles-based Simon Wiesenthal Center had demanded that Ikea prove it wasn’t avoiding Israel because of the Arab boycott of the country. The company has franchised several stores in Arab countries. The demand followed the disclosure that Ikea founder and Chairman Ingvar Kamprad had been affiliated with Nazi groups as late as the 1950s.
