GARDEN GROVE — Chris Young rushed for 186 yards and five touchdowns as Rancho Alamitos rounded out an unbeaten Garden Grove League season with a 50-0 rout of Bolsa Grande Thursday at Bolsa Grande High School.
The Vaqueros (7-2-1, 6-0 in league) scored twice in the game’s first five minutes, as John Frank connected on touchdown passes to Aaron Trigg for 57 yards and Jeff Turbarg for 36 yards. Young then added a 26-yard scoring run in the final minute to give Rancho Alamitos a 20-0 lead.
Young displayed his versatility as a two-way player in the second quarter, recording touchdown runs of 11 and one yard, and intercepting a David Price pass and sacking him. Young’s sack forced the Matadors (2-8, 1-5) to punt, setting up the Vaqueros’ final possession of the half and an eventual 35-yard field goal by Frank that made it 37-0.
Young capped Rancho Alamitos’ next two possessions with one- and five-yard scoring runs, but Kevin Allen and Leo Kosi assumed the bulk of the second-half rushing for the Vaqueros. Allen gained 67 of his 102 yards after the half; Kosi entered the game after halftime and gained 85 yards in 12 carries.
Price, playing catch-up all night, finished a frustrating three for 14 passing for 44 yards and three interceptions.
