SAN CLEMENTE — The Sheriff’s Department will have a sobriety checkpoint beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday and ending at 3 a.m. Sunday.
The checkpoint, at an undisclosed location in San Clemente, is one in a series in South County cities of San Clemente, Laguna Niguel, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills and Lake Forest.
The seven cities were awarded a $377,620 grant by the California Office of Traffic Safety for the checkpoints.
With the grant money, the cities have also been running special patrols in which deputies are assigned to only look for drunk drivers.
