ROUNDUP : Wilson, Glendale Winners
Jeff Wilson of Moorpark College posted his sixth victory in seven races this season, but Glendale placed five runners among the top seven finishers to dominate the team competition of the Western State Conference cross-country final Tuesday.
Wilson, a former standout at Newbury Park High, timed a course record of 19 minutes 50 seconds over the four-mile distance at Kenneth Hahn Park in West Los Angeles.
Wilson, who set the record of 20:05 in the season-opening Santa Monica Invitational, was never seriously challenged. He had a nine-second lead after the first mile (4:36) and more than doubled that at the finish.
Nacho Delgado (20:10), Jacques Sallberg (20:15), Eduardo Macias (20:25) and Jose Padilla (20:29) placed second through fifth for Glendale as the Vaqueros totaled 21 points to win their sixth WSC title in eight years.
Moorpark (76 points), Bakersfield (84), Santa Barbara City (96) and College of the Canyons (133) rounded out the top five.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Village Christian d. Montclair Prep, 15-10, 15-8, 15-11--The Crusaders rallied from a 10-2 deficit in the first game to win a Southern Section Division V wild card match.
Lindy James had 10 kills and four service aces for Village Christian (10-7). Kim McGee and Amy Mikial added six kills each for the Crusaders. Village Christian plays Mission Prep on Thursday.
St. Bonaventure d. Mayfair, 15-7, 16-14, 16-14--Kristin Klarc had 12 kills to lead St. Bonaventure (13-4) in a Division IV wild card match at Mayfair.
Bree Owcraski had 19 assists.
WOMENS BASKETBALL
Cuesta d. Moorpark, 15-7, 15-8, 12-15, 9-15, 15-9--Dawn Smith had 21 kills and Tami Vaillancourt added 18 kills and 21 digs for the Raiders (12-6, 10-3 in the Western State Conference).
