Garment Shop Owner to Pay Settlement
A Santa Ana garment shop owner has agreed to pay 14 workers $6,370 in unpaid wages and overtime pay under a settlement announced Tuesday by the Department of Labor.
Nguon Long Tran, operator of Best Sewing Contractor, agreed to pay the back wages after the Labor Department filed a complaint alleging labor violations from August to October of 1993.
Investigators said Tran paid employees a piece rate that worked out to less than the federal minimum wage of $4.25 an hour and did not pay the required time-and-a-half wages for overtime work.
