California IN BRIEF : YUCCA VALLEY : Mild Quake Called Landers Aftershock

A mild earthquake shook the Yucca Valley area, one of the thousands of aftershocks of the 1992 Landers temblor. There were no reports of damage or injuries, said San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies. The 4:45 p.m. quake had a preliminary magnitude of 3.2 and its epicenter was 18 miles north of Yucca Valley, said Caltech seismologist Jim Mori. The 7.6-magnitude Landers quake and its 6.7 Big Bear aftershock killed one child, damaged or destroyed more than 4,600 homes and businesses, and rattled millions of Californians.
