Sugar-Coated Cones

The caption on the photograph of young Conor Noonan steering his plastic toy car on a public street in La Jolla should have been “Conor Noonan playing it deadly” instead of “playing it safe.” (“Mother of Invention,” Palm Latitudes, Oct. 2). Marilyn Noonan is correct that traffic accidents are a leading cause of deaths among children ages 6 to 12. But orange cones announcing to motorists that children are at play on the street are hardly sure-fire insurance that an errant automobile or truck will stop without hitting them.
