Haunted Canyon--Get your kids back to nature in a frightening way at the Oak Canyon Nature Center’s Halloween party today from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The fun will include creepy crafts, ghoulish games and scary snacks. Children are encouraged to wear their costumes and strike a frightening pose at the photo station.

Geared toward children ages 7 to 10, there are 10 identical sessions available: 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Cost of the program is $6.50.

Oak Canyon Nature Center is located at 6700 Walnut Canyon Road in Anaheim. To get there, take the Riverside Freeway to the Imperial Highway turnoff. Exit and head south to Nohl Ranch Road. Turn left and travel about three miles to Walnut Canyon Road, and turn left again. Pass the Anaheim Hills Golf Course; the nature center is at the end of the road with parking on the left.

Green Thumbs Up--Fall Planting Day, sponsored by South Coast Audubon, is being held to create a butterfly and hummingbird garden at the San Juan Creek Habitat on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In addition to planting chores, a variety of activities are planned to keep children occupied. Food and drinks will also be provided by South Coast Audubon.

Volunteers should bring gloves, shovels, picks and hand tools. Hats and sunscreen are advised.

To get to San Juan Creek Habitat, take the Santa Ana Freeway to Ortega Highway and head east. Take a right at La Novia Avenue, then a left at Calle Arroyo. Stay on Calle Arroyo until it intersects with Calle del Campo and follow the posted signs to the planting site.
