COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Rally Falls Short in 13-12 Loss

Long Beach, the second-ranked team in the state, beat top-ranked Golden West, 13-12, to win the South Coast League water polo championship Friday at Belmont Plaza.
Golden West (23-2, 4-1) rallied for six goals in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough. Both of Golden West’s losses this season have been against Long Beach.
In the Orange Empire Conference:
Grossmont 11, Orange Coast 8--Jam Guiliamotti scored four goals to lead Grossmont (26-6, 6-0), which clinched the conference championship. Grossmont is the third-ranked team in the state and OCC is ranked fourth. Shad Wicker scored four goals and Kaj Sturdivant recorded 10 saves for Orange Coast (15-6-1, 5-1).
In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:
Cypress 2, Orange Coast 1--Visiting Orange Coast became the first team to score against Cypress this season when Danae Fielder scored from about 20 yards out in the 58th minute.
But Cypress (12-0, 10-0) rallied to tie on a breakaway goal by Christine Tyler in the 77th minute. The Chargers took the lead a few minutes later when Pam Prine scored off a corner kick by Tracy Van Herk. It was the 15th assist for Van Herk this season. It was the 35th consecutive conference victory for Cypress, the top-ranked team in the state.
