Volleyball Pros Add Spike to Local Clinic

Big-name volleyball players often lend their names to camps and clinics, but at some of these events participants may never even meet the superstars, much less learn from them.
Steve Laszlo says that won’t be the case with the Volleyball Technique Training Center, a four-hour clinic planned for Saturday at the foot of the Huntington Beach Pier. Laszlo is with Huntington Beach-based Third Degree Sportswear, which is teaming with Hard Angle Sports to sponsor the clinic.
Local professional coach Kevin Bazyourous will lead the clinic with the help of several assistants, including at least two pro players, Craig Moothart and Sheri Sanders. All will work with the students, Laszlo said.
Topics include strategy, setting, passing, hitting, defense, blocking and serving. Coaches will be aided by video, with assistants shooting footage of all participants so coaches can play it back and sharpen the finer points of technique.
Laszlo said the clinic is designed for all ages and ability levels. Participants will get lunch, a T-shirt and other items. When the clinic ends at 2 p.m., participants can stick around to play.
