Carrying signs that read “We Will Not Keep Silent About the Violence” and “No Means No,” about 100 women marched the streets of Pasadena last weekend to draw attention to violence against women.
Sponsored by the YWCA of Pasadena-Foothill Valley Rape Crisis Center, the “Take Back the Night” march and rally Saturday evening also commemorated the 20th anniversary of the center, which was formed after the rape of a 13-year-old girl.
Organizers said that the march and rally were meant to draw attention to the issue of safe streets and homes.
“It’s not just the streets that aren’t safe,” said Valerie Coachman-Moore, executive director of the YWCA of Pasadena-Foothill Valley. “People’s homes aren’t safe.”
