PREP EXTRA / SATURDAY FOOTBALL PULLOUT : Young Rushes for 275 Yards as Fullerton Defeats Buena Park
BUENA PARK — Christopher Young rushed for 275 yards and two touchdowns to lead Fullerton to 27-14 victory over Buena Park in a Freeway League opener Friday.
Young, a 165-pound senior running back, spoiled the Coyotes’ homecoming with touchdown runs of 80 and 40 yards. Young carried the ball 22 times to pace an Indian offense that only threw eight passes.
Buena Park (1-5, 0-1) had an opportunity to score three times in the first quarter, but failed, enabling Fullerton (4-2, 1-0) to score two quick touchdowns. Buena Park’s Tim Jones opened the game with a 51-yard kickoff return, which put the ball on Fullerton’s 47-yard line. However, two botched plays and two penalties later, the Coyotes punted, but recovered a fumble at Fullerton’s 10-yard line.
An illegal-shift penalty negated quarterback David Barrios’ 10-yard touchdown run and Buena Park came away empty when it missed on the field-goal attempt. After Buena Park failed on another field-goal attempt, Fullerton’s Young raced 80 yards for a touchdown with 4 minutes 7 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
