Marco Garcia of Dos Pueblos High booted a 24-yard field goal with five seconds remaining to force Buena to settle for a 27-27 tie in a Channel League game Friday night at Ventura High.
Buena (5-1-1, 2-0-1 in league play) led the entire game until Garcia’s kick and had taken a 27-17 lead when Jeff Stetler scored on a 14-yard pass from Glenn Dudley late in the third quarter.
But Dos Pueblos (2-3-1, 1-1-1) pulled within three when Ryan Thompson returned the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown.
Buena’s Chris Carr led all rushers with 133 yards in 18 carries. Josh Cross added 52 yards in 11 carries and scored on a 17-yard run in the first quarter.
Eric Stewart had two of Buena’s touchdowns, scoring on a three-yard option pass from Carr in the second quarter to give the Bulldogs a 14-3 halftime lead, and again on a one-yard run in the third period as the Bulldogs took a 20-9 lead.
Dudley completed eight of 13 for 83 yards.
Eric Ertman caught four passes for 44 yards and Stetler added two catches for 26 yards for the Bulldogs.
