STATION PARTY: It’s open house today at many local fire departments, part of National Fire Prevention Week. In Huntington Beach, firefighters will conduct a mock rescue and demonstrate rappelling into buildings. . . . In Fountain Valley, youngsters will test their speed at putting on fire equipment during emergencies. And parents can get their fire extinguishers charged. Says Fountain Valley fire spokeswoman Kathy Williams: “It will be a family-oriented day.”

GOING SOLAR: When Mark and Joanna Konno lost their home at 1325 Bounty Way in last year’s Laguna Beach firestorm, they went to Chris Prelitz of Seacrest Buildings. He’s a specialist in solar houses, reducing standard energy use in both hot and cool weather. . . . Solar product distributors are so impressed with the rebuilt home that--with the Konnos’ blessing--it’s included in a nationwide tour of such homes they’ve arranged today--open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

RING RAT: Twice in his career, celebrated wrestler Hulk Hogan has faced off with favorite bad guy Ric Flair. They each won a match. Their playoff comes Sunday afternoon, when they compete for the World Champion Wrestling title at the Anaheim Convention Center. . . . Hogan, who left wrestling for a while to concentrate on his movie and TV acting career, says he’s glad he returned to the ring: “It’s like a good car or a good woman. You don’t know how good they are until they’re not there.”
