Castellanos’ Interception Lifts Fremont

Fremont Coach Taja Rodisha has been preaching senior leadership to his players all season, and that’s exactly what Gus Castellanos gave him in a Friday afternoon game against Jefferson.
The senior defensive back’s interception with 1:51 in the fourth quarter sealed the Pathfinders’ 12-7 Southeastern Conference win.
“I’ve been telling the seniors that we need someone to step up and provide leadership,” Rodisha said.
“Fortunately, that’s what we got.”
Castellanos also scored Fremont’s first touchdown on an 11-yard reception from quarterback Robert Loera in the third quarter. Delante Walker’s 25-yard touchdown run put Fremont ahead 12-0 at the start of the fourth quarter.
After quarterback Larry Roberson’s four-yard touchdown run brought Jefferson within 12-7 at the 5:53 mark, Fremont turned the ball over on downs and the Democrats marched down the field.
But Roberson’s pass to Isaac Hatley was batted in the air and caught by Castellanos, who returned it to the Fremont 25-yard line.
Jefferson’s offense couldn’t produce consistent drives against Fremont’s defense, amassing only 74 yards in total offense to Fremont’s 282. Hatley was held to 27 yards in 11 carries.
Records: Fremont 4-1; Jefferson 1-4
Next week: Fremont BYE; Jefferson at Locke.
