PREP EXTRA / SATURDAY FOOTBALL PULLOUT : Brea-Olinda Clamps Down on El Dorado
PLACENTIA — Brea-Olinda used defense and special teams to take El Dorado out of its game plan and win, 33-13, Friday night at Valencia High School.
Brea-Olinda, which forced the Hawks to throw the ball, intercepted four passes. Randy Douge returned one 65 yards for a touchdown. Brea-Olinda, which used nine running backs, was led by Jerome Owens, who gained 48 yards in 18 carries. Ismail Abdullah carried the ball twice for El Dorado, scoring on a 59-yard run late in the game.
“I was really pleased with the defense. We dominated the line of scrimmage,” Brea-Olinda Coach John Looney said.
Brea-Olinda scored on its first possession. The Wildcats began their first drive with a five-yard penalty that pushed them back to the El Dorado 41. The drive was kept alive by a 17-yard pass from Matt Kalcevich to Travis Robinson. A six-yard run by Owens set up a nine-yard reverse by Mike Beamer for the Wildcats’ first touchdown.
El Dorado’s second possession was three plays and out. The Wildcats then went on a 12-play drive that was capped by a one-yard run up the middle by Owens.
After the kickoff, El Dorado again went three plays and out. After being backed up to its 11-yard line, El Dorado had its punt blocked and Brea-Olinda’s Douge recovered in the end zone for the Wildcats’ third touchdown.
