CITY SECTION FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Brown, Taft Have It Their Way
- Share via
Jerry Brown had a field day. And as Brown went, so too, did Taft High in a 53-0 rout of Chatsworth on the Chancellors’ home field Friday night in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Brown, a senior, rushed for a career-high 226 yards and four touchdowns in 14 carries, and Taft (4-1 overall, 2-0 in league play) scored on each of its possessions.
“Everything was going good tonight,” Brown understated.
Brown scored the game’s first three touchdowns on runs of 35, 19 and six yards. He had 134 yards in the first half as Taft forged a 25-0 lead. And if that wasn’t enough, on his first carry of the second half, he burst through the middle and raced untouched for an 80-yard touchdown.
Chatsworth (2-3, 0-2) gained only 92 yards and had a 63-yard touchdown pass negated because of a holding penalty.
Taft gained 438 yards, including 377 on the ground. Quarterback Dayon Shaw completed five of nine passes for 61 yards and two touchdowns. Dashon Polk scored on an 88-yard run up the middle and a five-yard pass.
