Man Died Trying to Hurt Officers, Police Say
PLACENTIA — Two police detectives conducting a surveillance near Musial Street and McCormack Lane Thursday shot and fatally wounded a suspect who tried to run over the approaching officers, police said.
About 1:30 p.m., officers “in the process of making contact” with the suspect fired their weapons at the 24-year-old man, who has not been identified, according to Placentia Lt. Chuck Babcock. The suspect was pronounced dead at Placentia Linda Hospital, police said.
Police would not say what the surveillance was about nor what the man was suspected of.
He was alone in his vehicle at the time of the shooting, and no other suspects were arrested.
As in all officer-involved shootings, the man’s death is being investigated by the Orange County district attorney’s office.
