New Fees for Expedited Passports
Beginning Oct. 1, travelers in a hurry will have to pay a $30 fee for expedited processing of passport applications.
Applicants who are scheduled to depart in 10 days--and have the tickets or confirmed reservations to prove it--are eligible for the special service, as are travelers who need their passports in order to apply for foreign visas.
Passports routinely require about two weeks to process--longer during the February-July busy season. In Los Angeles, the passport agency is at the Federal Building, 11000 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 13100.
