* 1/2 Various artists, “No Prima Donna: The Songs of Van Morrison,” Polydor. Van the Man--immodestly co-producing this tribute himself--apparently set out to prove that no one can do his songs better than he can. How else to explain the lack of imagination in performances by Sinead O’Connor, Elvis Costello, Lisa Stansfield, Hothouse Flowers and others? Only Marianne Faithfull’s grizzled “Madame George” lends any new perspective.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
