Whittier Christian Gets 8 Turnovers, Beats Bolsa Grande
GARDEN GROVE — Whittier Christian capitalized on eight turnovers to pound Bolsa Grande, 44-0, in a nonleague game Thursday night at Bolsa Grande High School.
Steve Machuca and Nick Valdez each had two touchdowns for the Heralds.
Whittier Christian (2-0) first scored after a fumble recovery by Aaron Morrow set up a 27-yard touchdown run by Machuca. Morrow’s interception three plays later set up Machuca’s second touchdown, a seven-yard run.
Andrei Roudenko kicked a 42-yard field goal with two seconds left to give Whittier Christian a 17-0 halftime lead.
Kaipo Takahashi caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Andrei Roudenko on the opening drive of the second half to give the Heralds a 24-0 lead with 6 minutes 12 seconds left in the third quarter. The touchdown was the only Whittier Christian score that did not come as a result of a turnover by the Matadors (1-1).
